Adding a New app version

Every once in a while, new application versions are released, Whether it is a bug fix, introduction of a new feature, new process improvement, process optimization or user experience improvement, applications are “living” solutions that need to be maintained frequently to ensure it performs optimally.

On the SmartMDM platform, an IT admin is able to add a new app version of their app once it becomes available. the process is easy and similar to the “Add a new app” process. This process helps you manage application rollout such that you are able to roll out this new app version to only “select” devices so that you can monitor stability in a controlled manner before you rollout completely to all the devices within your ecosystem.

To add a new app version, follow the steps below;

  1. Navigate to the Manage Applications module > select the actions icon on the app you intend to add a new version to. (see image below)

2. Fill out the new app version form.

The app name , App ID & the description of the app are usually pre-filled. You are only required to

  • select the platform,

  • enter the device OS version - in case the OS versions the new versions support are more or fewer than the others.

  • the new app version

Upon successfull adding the new app version, navigate back to the Applications bank > select the particular app needed > edit app details (see Fig.1 above for steps). The list of all the app versions that have been added will be displayed as shown below in Fig. 3
