Device Enrolment Overview

Introduction

Device Enrolment describes the process undertaken by an IT admin to onboard devices to their organization’s ecosystem. There are two methods for enrolling a device.

  1. Self or Single Enrolment process

  2. The Pre-enrolment or Bulk Enrolment process

Self or Single device enrolment process

In this process, a user is able to onboard their device either on their own or with support from their IT admin. the process follows the normal application installation process for Android applications. A step-by-step guide has been prepared for you and can be accessed here.

Pre-enrolment

In this process, the IT admin pre-enrols the device(s) on the SmartMDM admin console using a bulk template. With the bulk enrolment template, an IT admin is able to enrol up to 20,000 devices at a time without hassles.

The pre-enrolment process basically involved 3 steps as follows;

Download the pre-enrolment template

To access the bulk template, navigate to the device enrolment module > select bulk enrolment > click on the download enrolment template option at the top right corner of the modal displayed. (see Fig.1 below)

Fig. 1 - Download the pre-enrolment (bulk enrolment) template.

As earlier stated, the template is an excel file with the capability to process up to 20,000 records at a time. upon successfully downloading the template, Fill out the columns as seen in Fig. 2 below.

When the columns highlighted above are filled out with the details of the devices as well as the corresponding users to be assigned to the devices, the IT admin is expected to upload the filled-out file. To upload the file, Select the “choose file” option displayed in Fig. 1 above.

Enrolled devices will be displayed on the Enrolled devices page. To access this page, navigate to the Device enrolment module, and select the “Enrolled devices” tab as seen in Fig. 3 below

Note:

  1. For Device Enrollment to be successful, the user must have “Available Enrollment Allocation”. If the user doesn’t have any licenses left, they will be unable to enrol more devices.

  2. If the records to be processed is very large, the IT admin will be notified of the progress of the enrollment via email.
