OTA This is an acronym for Over-the-Air. It is an effective way to push application updates such as bug fixes & improvements. Imagine having to recall about 20,000 devices scattered all over the different regions because a new version of an app is available to be installed.

With OTA devices irrespective of their location can receive app updates and install the same when required.

To push OTA app updates, Add a new app or a new app version, and map the app to the devices you want the updates to be sent. The devices (Windows & Android) will receive the prompt to install the new app version at the point Login. Click here to learn how to “Add a new app version” and “how to map app to devices”

App installation Activity

To view the count of devices currently running an app, follow these steps.

  1. Select “App Devices” from the option of the app you intend to view download activity.

On this page, the user can see at a glance the count of devices that have the app installed and the count of devices pending installation.

Note:

For new applications, the OTA process is automated. That means mandatory business applications added by an organization is automatically pushed to the enrolled devices within that organization by default, for new app versions, the IT admin is required to manually push the new app version to selected devices as they desire. This is to allow for controlled roll out. Just so your organization can monitor the stability and performance of this new app version before it is rolled out to the entire ecosystem.

To push app updates to devices, follow the steps below.

  1. Navigate to the applications management module > select the app > select actions > and select edit app details.

2. Select the app version to push to the devices. Click on the action icon by the app version to roll out and select “map to devices”.

You can select a few devices by checking the “check box” by the device IMEI or select all devices if you intend to public the application across all the devices within your ecosystem.

Alternatively, if you have grouped your devices, you can easily push this app version to a group (see the device groups tab in Fig. 3 below). In this case, the devices within that group will get the new app version updates.

The update is usually installed silently on the receiving device.
